Denitrifying deep-bed filter is an advanced treatment technology that integrates physical filtration and biological denitrification functions.

Its technical principles include:

Biological Denitrification Mechanism:

In an anaerobic/anoxic environment, the denitrifying bacteria in the biofilm formed on the surface of the filter media utilize added carbon sources (such as sodium acetate, methanol, etc.) as electron donors to reduce nitrate nitrogen (NO₃-N) and nitrite nitrogen (NO₂-N) in the water into nitrogen gas (N₂), achieving the purpose of nitrogen removal.

Deep Bed Filtration Mechanism:

Using high-quality quartz sand with a particle size of 2-3mm as the filter media, with a filter bed depth of 1.8-2.4m, suspended solids (SS) in the water are effectively removed through physical interception and adsorption.

Chemical Phosphorus Removal Mechanism:

By adding coagulants at the front end or directly before the filter tank, phosphates in the water form insoluble precipitates, which are intercepted and removed by the filter media.

The denitrification deep bed filter adopts a specially designed air-water distribution filter block system to ensure uniform air-water distribution during backwashing, avoiding short-circuiting and dead zones. The filter block units form an "air circulation chamber", and during backwashing, a "secondary air distribution" effect is produced, making the air and water fully mix and then forcefully eject from the gaps between adjacent filter blocks to ensure thorough cleaning of the filter media.

The system uses automated control, which can automatically adjust the carbon source dosage according to the influent water quality load, and automatically start the backwashing program when the influent suspended solids are too high to prevent filter media clogging.

Applicable scenarios

Denitrifying deep bed filters are mainly used in scenarios requiring advanced nitrogen removal and suspended solids removal:

Sewage plant upgrading and transformation:

Particularly suitable for projects that need to reduce effluent total nitrogen to below 10mg/L and TP to below 0.3mg/L, which can stably reach surface water Class IV standards.

New sewage treatment plant projects:

Used as an advanced treatment unit for new sewage plants to ensure high-standard effluent.

Advanced treatment of industrial wastewater:

Used to treat industrial wastewater rich in nitrates, such as wastewater from fertilizer, petrochemical, and food processing industries.

Treatment of micro-polluted water sources:

Used to treat source water polluted by agricultural non-point sources to remove excessive nitrates from the water.

Pre-treatment for reclaimed water reuse:

Used as pre-treatment for processes such as reverse osmosis and UV disinfection to ensure the safety of reclaimed water quality.
